In America, 105,800 cans are recycled every minute. The industry pays more than $1 billion annually for recycled cans. On America Recycles Day 2019 (November 15), EPA recognized the importance and impact of recycling, which has contributed to American prosperity and the protection of our environment. The recycling rate has increased from less than 7 percent in 1960 to the current rate of 32 percent.
Recycling a single plastic bottle will save enough energy to power a lightbulb for three hours or more. Recycling five plastic bottles creates enough insulating fibre to fill a ski jacket. It takes 70% less energy to recycle paper than it does to make it new from raw materials.
