Colorectal cancer screening saves lives. If you’re 50 years old or older, talk to your doctor about getting screened.

Every year, about 140,000 Americans are diagnosed with colorectal cancer, and more than 50,000 people die from it. But this disease is highly preventable, by getting screened beginning at age 50.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease that affects the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system). In many cases, MS can cause permanent disability and even death. It is unknown what exactly causes MS. The most common thought is that a virus or gene defect- or both- are to blame. Environmental factors may also play a role. MS affects women more than men. The disorder is most commonly diagnosed between ages 20 and 40, but it can be seen at any age. You are slightly more likely to develop this condition if you have a family history of MS or you live in a part of the world where MS is more common.
The month of March is designated as "Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month" to enhance understanding of the disease, including its causes and health effects, and to support and encourage education programs and research to develop effective therapies and find a cure. Multiple System Atrophy Awareness Month in Ohio.
Multiple system atrophy (MSA) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by a combination of symptoms that affect both the autonomic nervous system (the part of the nervous system that controls involuntary action such as blood pressure or digestion) and movement. The symptoms reflect the progressive loss of function and death of different types of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. MSA is a rare disease, affecting potentially 15,000 to 50,000 Americans, including men and women and all racial groups. Symptoms tend to appear in a person’s 50s and advance rapidly over the course of 5 to 10 years, with progressive loss of motor function and eventual confinement to bed. People with MSA often develop pneumonia in the later stages of the disease and may suddenly die from cardiac or respiratory issues.
The month of March is designated as "Multiple System Atrophy Awareness Month" to increase public awareness of this progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects the autonomic functions of the body. Macular Degeneration Awareness Month in Ohio.
Macular Degeneration: Most cases of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) are progressive and over in adults older than 50. AMD involves atrophy of the macular cells of the retina, which is the part of the retina responsible for sharp central vision.
There are two types of AMD. Dry AMD is usually moderate and progresses slowly. Wet AMD is less common but more threatening to vision. It is called wet AMD because of the growth of tiny new blood vessels under the retina that leak fluid or break open. This distorts vision and causes scar tissue to form. Macular degeneration is more common in whites, thus heredity may present a risk factor. It is also more paths among variables. Results of this study indicated that all these variables are important in affecting overall health and that each cannot be compartmentalized and changed in isolation. Further, interventions that target all four of these may be the most successful in equipping people to live healthier lives.
The month of March is designated as "Macular Degeneration Awareness Month." (ORC: 5.2276 Macular Degeneration Awareness Month. Added by 129th General AssemblyFile No.84, HB 148, §1, eff. 6/4/2012.)
