Family Day in Nevada

Calendars of different countries: US Holidays
Calendar topics: Women’s Days
Until the late 17th century, ‘family’ included not only relatives but also the servants of a household. The word derives from the Latin ‘famulus’, meaning ‘a servant’. The first recorded use of the phrase “family size” in retailing was in 1882.
Launched in 2001 by The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University, Family Day is a national movement that informs parents that the engagement fostered during frequent family dinners is an effective tool to help keep America’s kids substance free.
“It has been proven that the more often children eat dinner with their families, the less likely they are to abuse drugs or alcohol,” First Lady Kathleen Sandoval said. “Whether it’s pizza or a gourmet meal on Monday night, the Governor and I encourage Nevadans to have dinner with their families, and we plan to do the same.”
“America’s drug problem is not going to be solved in courtrooms or legislative hearing rooms by judges and politicians. It will be solved in living rooms and dining rooms and across kitchen tables – by parents and families.” (Joseph A. Califano, Jr., The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse Founder and Chairman Emeritus)
