In South Korea, every male citizen over eighteen years of age has two years of required military service. Approximately 650,000 people are currently serving as active duty military personnel. Members of the military enjoy many discounts on Armed Forces Day.
Armed Forces in South Korea crossed the 38th parallel on October 1st, 1950. That's why October 1st was designated as Armed Forces Day.
On Armed Forces Day on October 1st, a large street parade takes place in Seoul with marching soldiers and combat demonstrations. Also, the parade features various types of military equipment, such as infantry fighting vehicles and missiles.
On Armed Forces Day, you can find events in the sky too. Above Seoul, you can see an air show involving planes from the Republic of Korea and the United States. You’ll see fighter planes flying around the sky on this day. Additionally, you can enjoy the music of the Korean military band, as well as performances of military bands from other countries, including Canada, France, and the United States.
