Around 6,000 different languages are spoken around the world. Europe's 28 member countries account for 200 unofficial languages. European languages belong to three distinct groups: Germanic, Romance and Slavic. Basque is the only European language that doesn't belong to any of these three.
Celebrated on 26 September, the European Day of Languages (EDL) is a means of promoting awareness among the general public of the importance of language learning and protecting the linguistic heritage.
Can you imagine this? The Busuu language is spoken by eight people in the world! It’s the language of Southern Bantoid of Cameroon. There were 8 speakers of the language in 1986 and 3 in 2005.
At least more than half of the world’s population speak more than one language. More than half of the global population speaks 23 languages only. This is as compared to more than seven thousand languages is interesting.
