25 July - Guanacaste Day in Costa Rica
The Central American Federal Republic passed the law and signed it on July 25, 1824, allowing the Guanacaste province to become part of Costa Rican territory. Guanacaste Day is a Costa Rican holiday celebrating Costa Rica's annexation of the Guanacaste province in 1824. It is celebrated on July 25th. Schoolchildren aren’t in school. Banks, government offices, and other places of business are closed.
The holiday is particularly grand in Tamarindo, as we’re located in the province of Guanacaste – the epicenter of the day’s celebration. It is the holiday to celebrate the union of Guanacaste with Costa Rica, a moment to remember that history that marked the definitive course of the Nicoya Party. It is the only annual and regional commemoration that has solemnity throughout the Costa Rican territory.
