Sarojini Naidu was born in Hyderabad to a Bengali Brahmin family, and her family traces its ancestry back to Bangladesh. She wrote several poems on themes of love, religion, romance, patriotism, and tragedy. She was also a freedom fighter and the first female governor of the United Provinces, present-day Uttar Pradesh. Moreover, in 1925 she was elected president of the Indian National Congress because of her educational ability and political acumen. She participated in the Exit India movement and was imprisoned for 21 months. Sarojini Naidu also contributed to the drafting of the constitution.
