National Neuromuscular Diseases Day in Spain

Did you know that in Spain there are more than 60,000 people with a neuromuscular disease? Neuromuscular diseases (NMD) are a group of more than 150 neurological diseases that affect the musculature and the nervous system. Most are genetic in origin and progressive in nature, and their main symptoms are usually related to decreased muscle tone, the key feature of which is loss of muscle strength.

NMS are considered rare diseases and therefore little known, so, in order to give visibility, inform and raise awareness of the reality and needs of people living with an NMS in Spain and their families, every November 15, since 2010, the National Day of Neuromuscular Diseases is celebrated, an event promoted by the Spanish Federation of Neuromuscular Diseases (ASEM Federation).
