On September 24, the Día del Colectivero or Bus Driver's Day is celebrated in Argentina as a tribute to what is considered to be the first collective transport trip in the history of the country, which took place on a day like today but in 1928.
Towards the end of the 1920s, most of the world was going through a serious economic crisis and Argentina was no exception.
In the City of Buenos Aires, the cab drivers' union was one of the most affected by the complex financial situation and this led them to think of proposals to face the crisis.
Thus, a group of cab drivers came up with the particular idea of organizing shared rides. Thus, rides would no longer be individual and would be made up of several people, among whom the total fare would be divided.
Thus, on September 24, 1928, what would be considered the first collective transportation trip took place in the City of Buenos Aires. Over the years, the proposal would grow and adopt new forms until it reached the current colectivos.
