On the initiative of FEDEFAM (Latin American Federation of Associations of Relatives of the Detained-Disappeared), the International Day of the Detained-Disappeared is commemorated on August 30.
This date constitutes a contribution to the strengthening of world awareness on the persistence of the practice of forced disappearance of persons -catalogued as a crime against humanity by the OAS and the UN. It is also part of the work that human rights organizations carry out to influence national and international public policies with the aim of preventing all forms of authoritarianism and consolidating the validity of rights and freedoms.
