Hungary National Day commemorates the founding of the Hungarian state in memory of Stephen I, the first king of Hungary and founder of the Kingdom of Hungary. He was canonized on August 20, 1083 by Pope Gregory VII.
St. Stephen's Day is celebrated every year on August 20 in Hungary. It is also known as Foundation Day, Constitution Day and "New Bread Day". The events begin in the morning, with the raising of the Hungarian flag, and continue throughout the day. At the end, a fireworks display over the Danube illuminates the city.
