Family planning is part of sexual and reproductive health rights. The International Day of Family Planning is celebrated on August 3. Its objective is to decide the number of children one wishes to have, according to social, economic and personal circumstances.
Family planning also includes sex education, prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, counseling before conception and during pregnancy, as well as infertility treatment.
This date is dedicated to the dissemination of information about contraceptive methods and their advantages for the prevention of unplanned and unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections, especially among young people and adolescents. Likewise, a call is made to identify and attend the population with greater need for contraceptive methods, guaranteeing the free exercise and fulfillment of Sexual and Reproductive Rights.
