For several years, every July 16, in Colombia, Our Lady of Mount Carmel (or the Virgin of Mount Carmel), who is the patron saint of drivers and the queen of the Armed Forces of the country, has been honored in the midst of a great festivity.
According to the order of the Discalced Carmelites, when they arrived in Colombia, approximately in the 1600s, this festivity was already present in the country.
The tradition of this festivity dates back to the 12th century, when a group of Christians following the prophet Elijah settled on Mount Carmel, a place in Israel relatively close to the sea, and chose the Virgin Mary as their patroness after an apparition that would help them set the course of their destiny.
