The festivities in honor of San Buenaventura are held in Moraleja (Cáceres) in mid-July. These festivities are mainly a popular bullfighting festivities, which include running of the bulls, bulls of aguardiente and heifers through the streets. They are considered one of the best bullfighting fairs in Spain.
Moraleja celebrates the Fiestas in honor of San Buenaventura around July 14. The Town Hall organizes several activities on the occasion of the festivities of San Buenaventura. Parades and bullfighting comedy show, entertainment groups with juggling games, dances, open-air dances and lots of noise are some of the events that are prepared. St. Bonaventure was born in Bagno-Regio, Italy. His father, a doctor, cured him of a serious illness when his mother made a vow to St. Francis. At the age of 22 he entered the Order of Minors under the name of Bonaventure. He studied and taught theology. In 1257 he was appointed Superior General of the Order. He is considered one of the fathers of scholasticism. He died here in 1274. Pope Sixtus V made him a Doctor of the Church in 1587.
Festive events include mass and procession of St. Bonaventure, the patron saint of Moraleja. But the most anticipated are the bullfighting festivities that take place in the Plaza del Pueblo. In these big days there are also sports competitions and cultural events for all ages.
