14 July - National Flag Day in Nicaragua
The Executive Power in the branches of Government, Public Education and Defense will make the necessary arrangements so that the Flag of the Republic is solemnly exalted on that date.
Nicaragua celebrates every July 14th the National Flag Day according to the provisions of Article 35 of the Decree Law No. 1908, Law on Characteristics and Use of the National Symbols.
The National Symbols are frequently confused with the National Symbols. The former are: The National Flag, the Coat of Arms and the National Anthem. The latter are: The Sacuanjoche Flower, the Madroño Tree, and the Guardabarranco Bird.
According to Law No. 1908, the Flag of the Republic or National Flag has the shape of a rectangle with three equal horizontal stripes, two cobalt blue at the upper and lower ends, whose meaning is justice and loyalty; and a white one in the center, symbolizing purity and integrity.
In this same legal instrument, it is ordered that the Coat of Arms or National Coat of Arms that goes to the center of the white stripe contains two elements: one peripheral and the other central.
In the peripheral, a circumference is formed around the central element with capital letters with the following legend: REPUBLICA DE NICARAGUA AMERICA CENTRAL. The central element has the form of an equilateral triangle supported on one of its sides; these are of metallic rim (gold). In the field next to the base there is a horizontal ground, an isthmus, which touches widely both oblique sides of the triangle, "bathed by both seas". On this terrain there is a chain of five volcanoes at rest, equidistant from each other, of equal height, more drawn in perspective, with foreshortening to the left side.
