June 9, is National Barros Luco Day, a traditional sandwich named after former Chilean President Ramón Barros Luco.
The former head of state was a frequent customer of the famous Confitería Torres. The restaurant established this celebration a few years ago and, over time, many other restaurants have joined in with special offers, promotions and combos for this day.
The name of this famous sandwich is due to the fact that the former president used to have a hot beef and cheese sandwich for lunch on a lightly toasted marraqueta, a custom that gave its name to this well-known Creole preparation.
