It is clear that without a free and ethical press, democracy, in any country in the world, loses strength and weakens. Therefore, it is important to promote the quality, honesty and courage of communicators who are often exposed to threats and aggressions in the exercise of their profession.
Every May 30, Costa Ricans remember all the people who have lost their lives defending the right to free expression, who have been injured and harassed because of their right to inform and denounce.
In particular, it will be a date to remember the terrorist attack of La Penca, perpetrated on May 30, 1984, so that this event does not go unpunished or die in the collective oblivion or in the judicial archives.
To honor the memory of those whose lives were taken or who were persecuted and injured in the exercise of their profession is a debt of honor and a recognition of the fundamental work of the press in a democracy.
