The National Day of Psychologists originated on May 20, 1994, when several associations linked to psychology met for the first time, following a call from the College of Psychology Professionals of the University of Guadalajara, in Jalisco, with the aim of promoting the role of these professionals.
A year later, in 1995, the National Federation of Colleges, Societies and Associations of Psychologists of Mexico (FENAPSIME) was founded, which holds periodic meetings.
In 1996, it was proposed to found the Day of the Psychologist, under three basic principles: to promote the work of psychologists, to denounce charlatans in the field of psychology and to make society aware of all the services that could be offered by this community of professionals.
In 1997, the guild defined May 20 as the National Day of Psychologists. This was in commemoration of the day on which the first meeting between professionals of this science took place.
As part of the celebrations, universities and psychologists' associations carry out academic activities such as conferences, seminars, workshops, among other activities.
These health professionals are gaining more and more recognition within the professional field, by contributing actions that improve the health of individuals.
