National Accountant and Accounting Day in Venezuela

The importance of accounting and its necessary application make companies and their managers move forward smoothly in their operations. At the opening of the World Congress of Accountants in Washington in 1992, the former President of the United States, George Bush, said: "investors in world markets look to accountants to provide them with the information that is essential to make responsible decisions and their work is given to preserve the structure of international financial markets".

In the beginning, the professions of Management and Public Accounting were merged into one. Classes were taught, since 1946, at the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences of the Universidad Central de Venezuela. Subsequently, each specialty was separated from the other and has its own law of professional practice and its own colleges. On September 27, 1973, the Law for the Practice of Public Accounting (LEPC) was published in Official Gazette No. 30,216 and was subsequently reprinted in Official Gazette No. 30,273 of December 5, 1973. In commemoration of the first publication of such law, the National Day of the Public Accountant is celebrated in Venezuela on September 27. Hence, the national government, as well as the various professional associations and sectors of the national society, join in the celebration of such important professional event, responsible for the creation, monitoring and evaluation of financial policies for the control of public and private companies, and also, with their contribution, consolidate the economic development of Venezuela.
