San Anastasio Night in Badalona, Spain

In May Badalona takes to the streets in celebration for almost the entire month. It does so in honor of San Anastasio and around the popular culture of Catalonia. They are the Festes de Maig. Although the proclamation takes place a few days before, everything explodes on May 10, Nit de Sant Anastasi, in the Cremada del Dimoni that is celebrated in the Plaça de la Vila and has been declared of tourist interest by the Generalitat de Catalunya. That night, the eve of Sant Anastasi, the figure of a demon is burned, which each year is surpassed in originality and color. But before the bonfire other rites take place: the dance in the square, the procession of the city, the Tanda del Lluïment, the Auto Sacramental, the dance of the Micaco, the Piromusical and, finally, the Cremada del Dimoni. After the flames, the music sounds as a finale to this magical night. The next morning dawns with a hangover of sparklers and fire. And the party continues with a solemn mass, the descent of the saint from the church of Santa Maria, chocolate and sardanas.
