The Paraguayan Chemist Day is celebrated in commemoration of the founding of the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy of the National University of Asuncion. On May 8, 1938, the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy of the National University of Asuncion (UNA) began its work.
There are several areas in which the role of the chemist has implications, such as the Epidemiological Surveillance of pathogens with epidemic potential, which year after year affects many Paraguayans, such as Dengue, Zika and Chikungunya, influenza, among others. Diagnostic studies, to a great extent, support current medicine and, at this point, the biochemist has a delicate and very important job, that of providing vital information that will influence the physician's decision making regarding the treatment to be applied to a patient.
