Abasolo is a municipality in the state of Nuevo León, Mexico, is the smallest municipality in the state and is located in the Central-Peripheral region surrounding the current Metropolitan Area of Monterrey. The municipality is named in honor of José Mariano Abasolo, who participated in the Mexican Independence. It was not until April 15, 1826, that it was established as a new district, with its capital at Viudas, according to decree number 145 that sanctioned provincial decree number 117, and the name was changed to Abasolo.
Abasolo Mexican Whisky is the first Mexican whisky sold in the UK and is made from 100% Mexican corn at the first purpose-built whisky distillery in Mexico. At 7,800ft (2,377m), the Abasolo distillery is one of the highest in the world, and must also be one of the most striking in its unusual design. Jilotepec, a town with a population of about 100,000, was chosen because it's known as the birthplace of corn in Mexico.
