Mechanical Engineer Day in Ukraine

Mechanical engineers design power-producing machines, such as electric generators, internal combustion engines, and steam and gas turbines, as well as power-using machines, such as refrigeration and air-conditioning systems. Mechanical engineers design other machines inside buildings, such as elevators and escalators.

Mechanical engineering has been around in the ancient Greece and China. The first machines which were created are screw, wheel and axle, inclined plane and pulley system. They made them to make the tasks easier. Then, the simple machines were used to create tools such as carts, ancient seismograph, and wheelbarrows.

On December 23, 1878, Stepan Tymoshenko, a famous Ukrainian scientist who introduced applied mechanics to the world, was born in the village of Shpotivka in Sumy region. He is the recipient of the highest American academic scientific awards in mechanics, the Royal Society of London, and the James Watt International Medal. The Day of Mechanical Engineer in Ukraine is still an unofficial professional holiday, the date of which, according to the project dilovamova.com, is December 23. Representatives of this engineering field have long deserved a deep respect from the general public, as they steadily make their efforts for the benefit of all of us.
