The initiator of World Trashman Day is John D. Arwood, the owner of a specialized recycling company.
He started his business in 1997, then began spreading the word about his activities on the Internet. After a few years of his firm's existence, he realized that the world didn't appreciate the recycling profession. This inspired him in 2011 to create and fully fund the first Trashman Day. It was important to Arwood that society recognize the tireless work of those people who dedicate their days to cleaning up trash.
