The state of São Paulo has a specific day to celebrate and congratulate the occupational safety engineer, it is July 27. The date was established by Law 14.818, of June 26, 2012, whose project was authored by Congressman Carlos Giannazi (PSOL).
In the justification of his project, the congressman remembered that the professions of Labor Safety Engineer and Labor Safety Technician were regularized by Law No. 7410 of November 27, 1985, but that much earlier the activities of the Safety Engineer and Technician were performed by companies and people who were concerned with workers' health and safety.
On July 27, 1972, the Ministry of Labor published Ordinances 3236 and 3237, which regulated technical training in Safety and Labor Medicine, updating article 164 of the CLT (Consolidation of Labor Laws). By extension, this day also marks the National Day for the Prevention of Accidents in the Workplace. For the professionals of the area, the date, more than a day of celebration, should serve for debates and reflections on their real role and recognition in the guidance of safety norms for workers in the State of São Paulo.
Among the main activities of a Labor Safety Engineer: advising companies on matters relating to safety and hygiene at work, examining sites and environmental conditions, facilities in general and material, methods and manufacturing processes adopted by the worker, determining the needs of the company in the field of accident prevention and responsible for developing training programs, courses, campaigns and lectures, aiming to disseminate safety standards in order to prevent accidents at work.
