It all started in 1947, when the Army Technical School, today the Military Institute of Engineering (IME), inaugurated its Aeronautical Engineering faculty. In 1950, with the creation of the Instituto Tecnológico da Aeronáutica (ITA), in São José dos Campos, the new school's first course was the Aeronautical Engineering Division. Thus, a high level school focused on the modality in Brazil was born. Today, 11 educational institutions teach the course in the country.
Working in the conception, projection, maintenance and construction of aircraft, rockets, missiles and satellites, the Aeronautical Engineers, resistant to the economic crisis, are ahead of promising projects, such as the exploration of the technical and scientific space sector by the Brazilian government. For example, they coordinate the Sino-Brazilian Earth Resources Satellite - CBERS program, under the responsibility of the National Institute for Space Research - INPE, developing five remote sensing satellites, launched into space to capture images and gather data for use in controlling deforestation and fires in the Legal Amazon and in monitoring water resources, agricultural areas, urban growth and land occupation.
Aeronautical Engineers are in aerospace research institutes, air transport companies and aeronautical parts manufacturers, as well as consulting firms and, of course, in the glorious Brazilian Air Force. Their profession is the dream of success for many young people, and their wish to fly high sets a safe course for the younger generation.
