A new national holiday has appeared in Ukraine - the Day of Ukrainian Statehood. The relevant decision was made by the Verkhovna Rada. It will be celebrated on July 28, the Day of the Baptism of Kievan Rus-Ukraine.
The holiday was established by the Decree of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on August 24, 2021, signed during the celebrations of the thirtieth anniversary of Ukraine's independence. During his speech at a solemn sitting of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi also announced that he would introduce a bill that would make Ukrainian Statehood Day a day off. The bill was introduced on August 25 under registration number 5864. On May 31, 2022, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed it: 257 people's deputies voted in favor.
According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 455/2023 of July 28, 2023, the Day of Ukrainian Statehood is celebrated on July 15.
