On June 10, 1999, the Salvadoran Legislative Assembly issued a legislative decree declaring June 21 of each year as "NATIONAL DAY FOR A NON-SEXIST EDUCATION" (Art.1, Decree No. 639), with the purpose, according to the decree, of contributing to “the construction of a formal and non-formal education that promotes and develops attitudes, behaviors and conceptions, which, while respecting the differences between the sexes, eliminates gender inequalities and encourages society as a whole to reflect on it and gives greater impetus to the integration of new values in all the components of the educational process”.
