Air Defense Forces Day was introduced in 2011 by order of the Minister of Defense.
The anti-aircraft missile forces are a branch of the Air Force, Ground Forces and Navy designed to ensure cooperation with other branches of the armed forces, anti-aircraft defense of important administrative and political centers, industrial and economic regions, groups of armed forces and other important objects. Different types of anti-aircraft missile (anti-aircraft artillery) systems with high capabilities to defeat modern air attack weapons in a wide range of heights and speeds of their flight, in different weather conditions and times are in service.
As of 2016, the anti-aircraft forces from the Air Force had 60 SAM divisions: 35 S-300P divisions, 9 S-125 divisions, 3 S-300V divisions, and 15 Buk SAM divisions.
They are actively and successfully participating in repulsing aggression from the terrorist Russia.
