Most of us have a favourite story, or selection of stories, from our childhood. According to a recent survey, the worst parent in fiction is the mom of the ten little monkeys jumping on the bed.
Some of the earliest “books” that combined both words and pictures, and that were read by younger people, are the Japanese illustrated scrolls of the 12th and 13th centuries. The typical number of pages in picture books (illustrated books, usually for younger children) is just over thirty.

In 1929, author J.M. Barrie gave the rights to Peter Pan to the Great Ormond Street children’s hospital in London. The copyright expired in 2007, but a deal was worked out where the hospital continues to collect royalties from stage performances of Peter Pan in the U.K.
