The National Day of Evangelical and Protestant Churches has been commemorated in Chile on October 31 each year - although it is moved to the preceding Friday if it falls on a Tuesday and to the following Friday if it falls on a Wednesday - since 2008. It was instituted by law 20299,1 promoted by the government of Michelle Bachelet to honor the Evangelical and Protestant Churches in the country.
The date chosen corresponds to the day on which the German monk Martin Luther nailed the 95 theses in the Wittenberg Palace Church, which started the Protestant Reformation in 1517. In 2007, the bill was introduced in the Chamber of Deputies. While it was going through the legislative process, that same year and on the occasion of the same occasion in October, the "Parque La Reforma" was inaugurated in the central alley of Avenida Fernández Albano, in the district of La Cisterna. The event was attended by the Minister of the Interior at the time, Belisario Velasco, together with other authorities.
