Feast of the Virgin Chiquinquirá in Venezuela

Today the national holiday of Our Lady of the Rosary of Chiquinquirá is commemorated, and in the municipality of Boyacá they prepare with Eucharists, petitions and rosaries to honor her. In addition, parishioners will be able to tune in to the transmission of the historic enthronement of her image in the Vatican Gardens.

La Chinita Fair or Chiquinquirá Fair is the name of a festivity of religious origin that takes place every year for eight days, from November 11 to 18, in the Venezuelan city of Maracaibo and extends to other locations. of Zulia state.

The story tells that one day in the year 1749, a simple woman had just washed her clothes on the shores of Lake Maracaibo, when she suddenly saw a thin wooden board floating, which she picked up thinking that it could be useful to cover the jar. of water that he had in the corridor of his house. The next morning, when she was brewing the coffee, the woman heard a knock as if someone was calling. She went to see what was happening and she was overwhelmed with astonishment when she saw that the little board shone and that the image of Our Lady of Chiquinquirá appeared on it. For this reason, the woman began to shout Miracle! Miracle! That's why the name El Milagro comes from the current avenue next to the lake, where the laundress's house used to be. After what happened, numerous people came to witness the prodigy, thus turning the house of the humble woman into a place of veneration of the Virgin by multiple believers.
