World Bee Day
World Bee Day is held on May 20. On this day Anton Janša, the pioneer of beekeeping, was born in 1734. This event in the second decade of the month May is annual.

We have been celebrating this day since 2018, thanks to the efforts of the Government of Slovenia with the support of Apimondia, that led the UN General Assembly to declare 20 May as World Bee Day.
Almost 90% of wild plants and 75% of leading global crops depend on animal pollination. Bees can be found living in so many locations, some surprising. The reason bees are so noisy is because they beat their wings 11,400 times in one minute!
A bee produces a teaspoon of honey (about 5 grams) in her lifetime. All worker bees are female. The Honey Bee is the only insect that makes food man can eat.
We can all do our bit to help bees whether that’s in our gardens, balconies or windowsills. By observing World Bee Day each year, we can raise awareness on the essential role bees and other pollinators play in keeping people and the planet healthy, and on the many challenges they face today.
