1 January - Carnaval in Aruba
An explosion of music and atmosphere: carnival is Aruba's biggest party of the year - and you're invited!
Carnival in Aruba is a dazzling month-long celebration of spectacles, musical competitions, street parties and spectacular parades that brighten and unite the entire country. All year long, locals look forward to the riveting carnival parade and tones of the calypso, the cozy sound trucks, the glittery costumes, the magnificent floats, the coronation of the carnival queen and the hip-swinging madness.
Carnival originated in 1954 as a series of small street festivals. In 1955, several clubs and districts organized Aruba's first public carnival, featuring the first official Carnival Queen. The traditional Grand Parades were introduced in 1957.
Carnival season begins on January 5 and lasts until March 5. During this period, several parades can be admired and there is dancing and singing along with Aruban carnival music.
