For over 50 years, the third week in March has been celebrated as National Animal Poison Prevention Week. Don’t leave things to chance when it comes to your pet’s health and wellbeing — National Animal Poison Prevention Week provides the perfect opportunity for learning more about identifying and preventing household toxin consumption in pets.
In 2021, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) Animal Poison Control Center received over 401,000 pet poisoning calls. Even more alarming, the Pet Poison Helpline announced sharp rises in pet poisonings between March 2020 and February 2021 (compared to the same period a year prior).
This week is all about bringing knowledge and awareness to all pet owners regarding the many poisonous hazards in and around one’s own home, and what to do if you know or suspect that your pet has ingested something that is potentially harmful. Let’s go room by room and talk about the potential poison hazards so that you can protect your furry friend from harmful substances. A little bit of knowledge can go a long way, and in this case, it could save your pet’s life!
