27 December - Make Cut-out Snowflakes Day
There is something magical about creating art from paper. Paper snowflakes are said to have originated in the Victorian era when paper snowflakes were given as gifts. Ice snowflakes melt, but there is something that lives even after the snowfall. Making cut out snowflakes is a favorite activity for the kids in the school. However, it is not only for the kids, but the adults can also participate and show the unique designs in making the cut-out snowflakes. Today, they're one of the most versatile and family-friendly holiday crafts.
Originally started in China, the art of cutting folded paper into artwork, or “scherenschnitte,” was adapted by 17th-century Europeans and brought to Colonial America in the 18th century by German immigrants, some of whom settled in southeast Pennsylvania.
Try using paper squares of different sizes for snowflakes big and small.
