11 March - World Plumber’s Day
One of the oldest known plumbing systems was created by the ancient Egyptians around 4000 – 2500 B.C. Since their lives depended on the ebb and flow of the Nile River, Egyptian engineers created and used a very intricate piping system to keep the water flowing where it needed to go. The earliest plumbing pipes were made of baked clay and straw and the first copper pipes were made by the Egyptians. They dug wells as deep as 300 feet and invented the water wheel. We know this because bathrooms and plumbing features have been found in the pyramids for the dead.
The Flushing Toilet Was Invented by John Harrington In 1596. Installing A Low Flush Toilet Saves Water. The Average Person Spends 3 Years of Their Life On The Toilet.
The World Plumbing Council is an international organization which aims to achieve the best possible plumbing for the world through growth and development of the world’s plumbing industries. World Plumbing Day is an international event on March 11 every year, initiated by the World Plumbing Council as a means of highlighting the important role plumbing plays in the health, safety and sustainability of our community.
