9 March - False Teeth Day
According to The History of Dentistry, dentures date all the way back to 2500 B.C. when they were made from animal teeth. Centuries later, the ancient Egyptians and the Etruscans made dentures from bone, wire, and repurposed animal and human teeth.
You'd be banished from the dinner table if you had false teeth in Victorian England. That's right; those with false teeth in England during the 1800s ate in their private rooms before dinner table events and gatherings. This unique tradition from the Victorian era was supposed to save those with false teeth from the embarrassment of their teeth falling out while eating their food. In the British Isles, dentures were common wedding gifts.
France was making huge advancements in dental technology in the 18th century. In 1728, Pierre Fauchard wrote about crafting false teeth from wire brackets and hand-carved animal bone. In 1774, Alexis Duchâteau made the first porcelain dentures.
