This day (since 1995) is about creating awareness on hanging clothes for drying on clothesline instead of using a dryer. The sun is a “natural sanitizer”, so if you dry you clothes under sun, they will smell cleaner and fresher. The occasion of Hanging Out Day reminds all of us that it is always better to dry clothes out in the sun than to dry them in a dryer.
