The original recipe Chocolate Chip Cookie was created in the late 1930s by Ruth Wakefield who famously ran the Toll House restaurant in Whitman, Massachusetts. Ruth Wakefield, the owner of the Toll House Inn, added chocolate bar pieces into her cookie batter thinking that they would melt. Instead, the classic chocolate chip cookie was born. Decades later it remains one of the most loved treats around the world.
