Peaches are at their peak from June to the end of August. The peach originated in China and has been cultivated at least since 1000 B.C.E. It has special significance in Chinese culture: the peach has mystical attributes, and supposedly brings luck, abundance and protection. National Peaches ‘n’ Cream Day recognizes a sweet way to eat ripened peaches. Fuzzy peaches are synonymous with summertime. The fruit can be found everywhere from roadside stands and grocery store produce sections to desserts and salads at five-star restaurants. “The Peach State” is Georgia’s nickname.
The Romans called the peaches “Persian Apples” naming them after the country that introduced peaches to the West.
