National Cold Cuts Day, Mulled Wine Day and National Moscow Mule Day in USA

The deli meat that is so popular today has been attributed to the Earl of Sandwich, who popularized these, along with his famous creation (the sandwich) in the 1700s. In turn, meats like pastrami, corned beef, among others, are the invention of Jewish delis from Eastern Europe.

Americans annually eat about $2 billion worth of cold cuts per year. Most pre-sliced cold cuts are higher in fat, nitrates, and sodium than those that are sliced to order. One of the most well known cold cuts in the United States is bologna.

Mulled wine is a traditional beverage that has been on offer for the past few centuries. It was created by the Romans who would heat wine to defend their bodies against the cold winter. As the Romans conquered much of Europe throughout the next century, their love for mulled wine spread across their empire and the regions they traded with.

The Moscow Mule was born on that day in 1941. The perfect combination of vodka and ginger beer, housed in a solid copper mug that kept the drink cold and enhanced its flavor and aroma, resulting in a cocktail that America would fawn over for the next century and beyond.
