During the Nazi occupation of France, the resistance was an inspiring example of patriotic behavior and bravery. Resistance in France began as soon as the Germans invaded in May 1940. The French Resistance played a significant role in facilitating the Allies' rapid advance through France following the invasion of Normandy on 6 June 1944.
