Penitentiary Service Day in Poland is held on February 8. Prison service was established in 1919 and a Polish prison designated on February 8 (from 2011) pursuant to the Act on the Prison Service of April 9, 2010. This event in the first decade of the month February is annual.

In Poland there is 156 Penitentiary Units (prisons and remand centers). The biggest one has 1.620 places (Areszt Śledczy Warszawa – Białołęka), the smallest one has 56 (Areszt Śledczy in Świnoujście).
