The Government of the Republic of South Africa declared the first Saturday of November as the National Children's Day. The aim of the National Children's Day celebration is to highlight progress being made towards the realisation and promotion of rights of children.
World Children's Day was first established in 1954 as Universal Children's Day and is celebrated on 20 November each year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children's welfare.
