In many countries, Teacher's Day is intended to be a special day of appreciation for teachers. In some countries the day is celebrated at the end of the week, while in others it is celebrated on a weekday. Since 1994, UNESCO has established that International Teachers' Day is celebrated every year on 5 October.
Teacher's Day is celebrated on 5 June in Romania, which coincides with the birthday of Gheorghe Lazăr, the founder of modern Romanian education. Gheorghe Lazăr founded in 1818, in Bucharest, the first school taught in Romanian, the School of Saint Sava. The establishment of Teachers' Day was approved on 9 October 2007 by Parliament and then by Law No 289 of 29 October 2007. The event is educational, national, apolitical and cultural.
