There's a saying that today's youth is tomorrow's nation builder. In the spirit of this thought, National Youth Day is celebrated every year on 12th January.
National Youth Day is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. He was a philosopher, activist, social reformer, and thinker. Being a follower of Ramakrishna, he founded the Ramakrishna Mission in 1897. In 1984 the Government of India declared this day as National Youth Day and since 1985 the event is celebrated in India every year.
Celebration of National Youth Day plays huge importance in country like India which has more than 60% population as youths. The main aim to celebrate the National Youth Day is to encourage the youths to learn the ideals and teachings of Vivekananda and implement them in their lives.
