It's the Only Modern Pictographic Language. Different tones can drastically change a word’s meaning. With over a billion native speakers, about 15% of the world’s population speaks Chinese as their mother tongue. Chinese speakers mean different things by “I speak Chinese”. To know Chinese, you have to know over 2,500 characters. The main accents of Chinese are Northern, Southern, and Taiwanese.
