Annentag in Brakel

The Annentag in Brakel is a traditional funfair that takes place in the town center of Brakel in North Rhine-Westphalia. Annentag lasts four days and takes place annually on the weekend of the first Sunday in August, starting on Friday and ending on Monday.

Size and popularity: With around 350,000 visitors, Annentag is the largest inner-city funfair in the Weserbergland region and is known far beyond the borders of Brakel.

Program of events: There are numerous attractions during Annentag, including a stroll around the fairground, music and star performances in the marquees. The Annentag procession on Sunday is a traditional part of the popular folk festival.

History: The origins of Annentag probably date back to the 16th century. It was initially held on July 26, but was later moved to the first Sunday in August. On "Annentag-Sonntag", hundreds of worshippers parade behind the Blessed Sacrament from the parish church of St. Michael to St. Anne's Chapel, where a high mass is read.

Annentag offers a mixture of pleasure, tradition and religious reference and is an important event for the town of Brakel.
