The Magdeburg City Festival is an annual event that takes place in the city center of Magdeburg and offers a variety of musical performances, cultural events and entertainment for all age groups. Over the four days of Whitsun, Magdeburg's city center is traditionally transformed into the largest festival mile in the region.
There are several stages presenting different genres of music, from rock and pop to schlager and folklore. Highlights include cover bands, local artists, DJ sets and special theme evenings. Experience a variety of rides, showmen and culinary delights.
Older forms of the name Magdeburg are ad Magadoburg or Magathaburg in the 10th century. The base word Burg is familiar to everyone. Jürgen Udolph (first published in 1999) assumes that the determiner contains an - unattested - Germanic adjective *magaþ ("great, mighty"), meaning "mighty castle".
History: The year is 1996, the band "Fiddlers Green" gets people dancing, children amuse themselves on the rides. Magdeburg's first city festival was born and from then on was to provide a lively atmosphere every year. In 2013, it was "trampled to death" - a new concept was needed. So internationality was brought in and the Europafest was born.
